Subcultural Futures. A training and mentoring program.

The Academy of Subcultural Understanding was founded by the Tresor Foundation - an initiative that aims to support club and subcultures. The Academy supports young people who have recently or will soon open a venue in their cities, providing them with training, mentoring, and support. We believe that clubs make cities better: we need well-curated clubs in all cities. We focus primarily on supporting the growth of subcultural venues outside of the major cities, because these spaces vastly improve the lives of young people and can transform cities. For this we need committed young people on the ground who bring their visions to the Academy, along with a passion for electronic music and the arts.

In the first half of 2025, Subcultural Futures presents the opportunity for eight people to enter a program with two main components: a five-month mentorship program in your region or country, along with two visits of one week each for workshops and training on-site at Tresor Berlin.

Mentors will be leaders in your region or country from the music scene, such as club owners, managers, or other experts. We will team you with someone from our wide network of European club makers, to provide you with national or regional expertise, advice, hacks, tips, and support. Mentorships will run from January through May 2025.

From 26.01. – 01.02. and 18.05. - 24.05. you will join us in Berlin for intensive weeks of training at Tresor. Topics include bar management, awareness, door policy, club concept development, security, and some key business planning concepts. No club can survive without knowledge of economic and financial aspects: an overview of all the essential skills, knowledge, and unwritten rules will make up the core curriculum in Berlin.

Speakers include in-house staff from Tresor, OHM, and Kraftwerk, personalities and experts from the Berlin scene, local and international guests.

We are looking for candidates who have either recently opened a venue or who have concrete plans or a vision to open a new club or venue outside the major metropolitan areas.

If you are between the ages of 23-35, live in the EU, have recently or plan to open a new club, please read the FAQ and apply here:
